Reciprocal Inhibition
Reciprocal Inhibition is the amazing ability of the body to protect itself when two opposing muscles are tight across the same joint.
A muscle must have Acetecholine present in order for a contraction to occur. What happens when two muscles are tight across the same joint, and the potential for injury is present, the tighter muscle releases Acetecholine Aceterase that will wipe away the Acetecholine on the weaker opposing muscle. Isn't that awesome?
So, let's say that you have a tight muscle in your biceps and you just can't get it to relax. I can instruct you to tighten your Triceps against my resistance and make you hold that tension until the Biceps have received their dose of Acetecholine Aceterase. It's your body medicating itself. Do you see why this stuff excites me so much?
