Compression (static and travelling)

Compression is that wonderful pressure you receive when someone presses a muscle against the bone underneath. The pressure can remain in place (static), or press down toward bone and then stretch the tissue in any direction (travelling).

Static Compression is wonderful for its soothing experience. Stillness. Pressure. Comfort.

Travelling Compression gets used to break up adhesions, those layers of skin and fascia that get stuck from various elements in the blood that don't get flushed out. Our layers of skin and tissues surrounding muscles, nerves, bones and such are all supposed to move freely against one another. When they get 'stuck' there is what's called an adhesion, which can cause tissues to move improperly, cause pain, or just feel unpleasant.

Travelling Compression with very light pressure can also be used to aid in lymph drainage. Lymph is the stuff in our lyphatic system. Unlike our blood system, the lymphatic system has no pump, normally the use of our muscles 'pumps' the lymph and keeps our immune system flowing. When lymph builds up and does not drain properly, the lymph can be drained manually by stretching superficial layers of skin over deeper layers, thus stretching the lymphatic vessels and encouraging movement toward the nearest lymph node.

This is a valuable proceedure to receive before and during the cold and flu season. It is extremely relaxing, and most certainly beneficial.
