Aquatic Bodywork
I have received training in Watsu I and Watsu II. My instructors were Jeanie Edwards and Steve Carter. They opened my eyes to the most wonderful environment for bodywork that I can imagine. This work is almost spiritual for me.
I float clients in 98 degree warm saltwater. The water provides bouyancy, warmth, and resistance. As my clients are supported by myself and the water, the warmth of the water and its support are constantly providing the soothing experience that aids in getting past a guarding response.
I've watched clients who are guarding their shoulder as they are being moved through the water. At first the arm stays near the body and won't move with the flow of water, but over the course of a couple of minutes the arm begins to slowly relax and then soon it is flopping everywhere the water wants to take it.
The water does not force its way but provides a constant influence to the body's joints.
Floating also takes the effects of gravity out of the picture. Discs between the vertebra are allowed to expand and receive fluids. The techniques of my aquatic bodywork allow the spine to undulate, rotate, and expand.
I have also found that I can use all the tools of my table work in the pool. By putting my client in a seated postion I can work on the shoulder, back, neck, and head.
