Reiki Energetic Healing

East West College challenged me to go outside my comfort zone and stretch my boundaries during my initial training. In my third quarter of certification training I was asked to schedule a professional massage appointment with someone I would not normally seek out. I chose to see someone providing 'intuitive massage.'

I called a practice named Mariposa Massage. I can't remember how I found it, but I remember my experience. The therapist (I can't remember her name) spent 1/2 hour interviewing me and then spent an hour with me on the table. She was kind enough to deal with my skepticism without becoming defensive. She kept working the area at the base of my neck and explained that there was blockage there. She also shared that this is the area where the body deals with speech, influence of the world outside the body, and guilt. Her intuition told her that I was dealing with guilt, and then she shared that she had a flash of an image in her mind. She described the image and it was very much the way I imagined my grandma. The therapist believed that my guilt was related to my grandma. As she said this I made a connection internally that I hadn't made in any other therapeutic environment.

I learned from this experience that I should not discount the effectiveness of the 'woo woo' stuff. For a long time I just talked and listened with people who do energy work and finally, a little over a year ago I started learning about Reiki and became attuned to the Rei Ki (surrounding life energy). I am a Reiki I practitioner, taught in the Usui Shiki Ryoho oral tradition.

From Mikao Usui to my teacher, here is the history of who brought Reiki to me

Mikao Usui

Chujiro Hayashi

Hawayo Takata

I am thankful to my teacher, and to those that brought Reiki to her.
